Our “Iowa’s Most Egg-cellent Omelet Contest” is celebrating its fifth year! Starting March 1, the Iowa Egg Council will accept nominations (from both individuals and restaurants!) and the winning restaurant will be crowned during National Egg Month in May. Submit nominations through this Google Form. Or, feel free to email the information to Melissa Alto-Kintigh at melissa@iowaegg.org.

To qualify, Iowa dining establishments must offer omelets as a regular menu item, and be open year-round with regular hours. Food trucks, concession stands, seasonal eateries, and catering businesses are not eligible.

This first round of the contest lets the public put their No. 1 choices on Iowa Egg Council’s radar. Nominations are limited to one per person. You can nominate a restaurant by going to iowaegg.org and complete the quick Google forms survey. The nominations will be posted on our Facebook page for voting.

Following the nomination round, Iowa Egg Council committee will review the restaurants, pulling the five restaurants with the most nominations. Top contenders will be turned over to a panel of undercover judges, who visit the locations and decide which omelet meets their criteria for quality, taste, physical characteristics, and eating experience.

Five finalists, including the winner, will be named in May, with the winning restaurant receiving $200, a trophy to display in their business, and statewide publicity that will encourage people far and wide to stop in to try the most eggscellent omelet.
